7 Questions for Hemera Visuals - Dumfries and Galloway Wedding Photographer

First (and probably well overdue!) blog post of 2020. We’re kicking off by prompting Dumfries & Galloway Wedding Photographer, Cameron Pagan of Hemera Visuals, with a few questions about being involved in the wedding industry and what makes him tick.

What do you love most about photographing weddings?

I love meeting new people all the time, so to always be meeting amazing couples who want you to capture their big day is always the biggest honour. And I love any excuse for a party!

What is your favourite part of the day to photograph?

Being a Dumfries and Galloway Wedding Photographer my favourite part of the wedding day to photograph has to be the couples portraits. In particular if we are going to get an incredible evening with a sunset that is always something I love to capture.

It’s usually the first time the couple have gotten the chance to see each other alone for the whole day so to see them madly in love soaking it all in is pretty special.

Who do you think has influenced your photographic style?

My photography has developed over the past few years, rather than style I really try and focus on the couple and making sure they have an amazing time. I do look up to a lot of different photographers including CHUY Photo and my close friend Marie Harkness.

Has your style adapted or changed in any way since you began photographing weddings?

My biggest fear becoming a photographer was would I ever develop my style. Even more so than style, my approach has definitely changed throughout, more so just being more streamlined and efficient on the wedding day to make sure the couple have the best time possible and get to see as much of their friends and families that they can.

What trends would you like to see for weddings in the future?

I would love to see more DIY weddings again, with having a very DIY wedding myself last year I just love and appreciate the simplicity of a wee village hall or barn and making it your own.

What advice would you give to couples when researching wedding photographers?

A wedding photographer should be booked on two things, how much you love their style and work but secondly how well you get on with them. You really need to love the person and their approach to weddings so there are no potential clashes later on.

What other types of photography do you do? Whether in your spare time or for work?

I have always loved shooting astrophotgraphy. The last few years I haven’t gotten out to do much of it but this winter when the skies get much clearer again, I will be getting back out, just on a personal level. And I am always taking pictures of my two dogs, so I suppose pet portraits count too? Haha!

Finally, give us a few words as to why should couples consider booking you?

I believe that I am a super relaxed and fun photographer to have on any wedding day. Guiding you through the process to make sure you have the best possible photographs and memories to look back on and enjoy as well having the time of your lives on your big day.
